This February 12-22, 2017, Lester and Samantha of Love in the Fire and Fire Groove Gear will host a special fire poi and staff workshop at the new La Escuela Del Sol campus!
This workshop is unique in that you may choose a one week course (6 nights of accommodation) or extend your course to complete Lester and Sam’s Envision Quest, adding two extra days of classes, 4 more nights of accommodation and Costa Rica’s Envision Festival in your second week (tickets purchased separately)! Envision is an annual 4 day art, music and sacred movement festival in the spirit of Burning Man.
This fire poi and staff workshop will be best for those with knowledge of basic fire and flow arts already. We will focus not only on poi and staff techniques, but also on dance and performance across multiple fire tools and toys.
Along with his two sisters, Lester founded Fire Groove, a fire and flow arts center based out of Los Angeles. Lester has produced and starred in instructional DVDs Poi Groove and Staff Groove as well as the popular, inspirational, Fire All-Stars DVD.
He’s been a featured performer in other instructional DVDs including Dancing with the Staff with Srikanta Barefoot, Encyclopoidia 2 with Zan Moore and Alien Jon and Vulcan’s Contact Staff DVD. In addition, Lester continues to be an instructor at many fire dance festivals and events including Fire Drums, Lightning in a Bottle, High Sierra, Ignight and many others.

This poi workshop will include 6 or 10 nights of accommodation, 90 minutes of instructional poi &/or staff every morning, plus practice time every afternoon during your class days. Also included is a waterfall hike, a boat trip to the tropical Isla Tortuga, a Thursday night lighting up ceremony and a Thursday night fire show in the center of Montezuma to show off your new moves in front of a crowd (optional but awesome!), some built in down time to hit the beach, canopy tour, go surfing, etc., and more. Meals will not be included but every villa has a full kitchen available to you and we will certainly have some community dinners.
ENVISION FESTIVAL
The 7th annual Envision festival for music and art will be Feb 23 – 26. This year’s lineup isn’t out yet but, to for an idea, previous musical acts included Phutureprivitive, Human Experience, Tipper, Random Rab, Shpongle, Beats Antique, Lafa Taylor and tons more musical artists and lots of on-stage fire performance (including Sam and Lester).
PEX MONTEZUMA GATHERING
If that weren’t enough, the founders and DJ’s of the Philadelphia Experiment (PEX), are crashing Montezuma immediately following Envision! The gathering includes nightly parties with world famous DJ’s. You might want to make plans to come back to Montezuma for 3 full weeks of nuttiness!
That said, our workshop will be in very serene and tranquil accommodations with beautiful waterviews, surrounded by Costa Rican rainforest next to the Cabo Blanco National Park. Make of it what you will!
Standard accommodation for this retreat will be at the new LEDS campus. Two options will be available including a shared, simple room with shared bath or a shared deluxe room with A/C and private bath. All participants will share with a maximum of 3 people per room (we’ll place you with others of the same sex, if need be), A/C, full kitchen, private bath and hot water. If requested, we can place you in a room with a friend.

This poi workshop will not be compatible with Spanish, surfing or Scuba classes. For those who would like to combine poi with Spanish, surfing or Scuba, regular poi classes from La Escuela Del Sol will continue to be taught apart from the workshop. Longer stays may also be accommodated for students who would like to take the workshop and continue with LEDS classes either before or after the workshop.
